The deadline for designating players with the franchise tag has passed, and six players were locked up for one more year with their current team: BAL QB Lamar Jackson, NYG RB Saquon Barkley, LV RB Josh Jacobs, DAL RB Tony Pollard, JAX TE Evan Engram, and WAS DT Daron Payne. The Jackson tag comes as Baltimore’s QB is still demanding a fully-guaranteed Deshaun Watson-style deal. Any other team can now negotiate and sign Jackson (or any of the other players, all non-exclusives) if they are willing to give the Ravens two first round picks. So far, multiple teams have denied interest in Jackson.
In today’s podcast, I talk about: why no one is interested in the oft-injured Lamar Jackson (and why Mike Florio is crazy to allege collusion), the other quarterbacks who did get new deals, why Daniel Jones won big (and why I was right about his negotiations), why fans are wrong to ask their favorite players to take a pay cut, why Eagles fans should be excited for Jalen Hurts when gets a big deal, and I review my analysis of incoming rookie running back numbers at the Scouting Combine.
